Overview: Another experimental foray into mixed-media furniture, this box began as a way to show off some neat hinges forged as a creative exercise. Once the box was built and hinges installed, the rest just kept being added a little bit at a time, until it started to get pretty heavy. The box has a forged catch-support arm to keep the lid open, and is lined with the same textile that upholsters the Mesoamerican bench (both go together rather nicely). Also, as with the bench, the wood is pine, finished with the same polyurethane stain. Again, the metalwork has been hot coated with proprietary beeswax/boiled linseed oil mixture to both prevent oxidization and to add depth to the overall finish of the piece.
